viva la corsica!

so i havent updated in couple of weeks..been busy cuz its DST time (mid-terms). thought we were all done last week and i was super-excited for corsica until last tuesday, my langue orale professor sprung one on us..dst the following week. so yeaa im totally not excited for my 9 am class and dst afterward. at least we end at 4 pm tomorrow, which is early for a tuesday! anyways, about corsica...this past weekend, i went to la corse with erin, rachel v., lindsay, and zainab. we stayed in a bungalow in calvi, which is on the northwestern shore of the island--the place was really cute. we had our own petite maison in the middle of a eucalyptus forest. on friday morning, we took an 8 am ferry to get there and claire was nice enough to give us a ride to the port and even buy us fresh baguettes from a boulangerie. the ferry was nice and comfy..it was mostly empty and the seats were really cushy. i listened to a lot of Gregoire, a french singer whose album i downloaded, and lady gaga this weekend, so those two are probs gonna be my corsican playlists that make me feel nostalgic about calvi. when we got there, we made our first stop at casino to pick up some food for the weekend. i ended up eating a lot of instant stuff..and muesli..which i got so sick of by the last day. anyways, we had 3 hours to kill before checking in to the bungalow, so we went a la plage and got changed into our bathing suits there right on the beach. thats the french way, lol. more like there werent any restrooms..anywhere. it was a nice sand beach--the sand was so soft and white, but ended up sticking everywhere. i def missed the pebbly La voilier plage back in Nice. most of the beaches in Nice are full of big rocks, but the one 3 minutes from our apartment is nice and pebbly. back to corse...so yea i ended up checking in to our place and spending the rest of the evening chilling with the girls. at one point, we got so giggly that someone from the mobile home next door (like 2 feet away) knocked on our door..that was kinda creepy. we were pretty quiet for the rest of the weekend. then on saturday, rachel and i went hiking towards the mountains. we stopped to look at every little bug and flower--this girl is so energetic, i wouldve never gone that far without her. compared to the hike in tourrette levens with letzter last week, where we forded rivers and traversed mountains, getting really muddy in the process, this hike was a lot more relaxing and enjoyable. we kept going all afternoon until we ended up on the side of mini-voie rapide, which turned out to be 5 kilometers away from calvi. so we headed back, walking on the side of the road for most of teh way back, until we reached a sidewalk. the hike was awesome, minus the honks we got from like every other car cuz french men are sleazy like that. on our way back, rach and i stopped by casino to pick up more food cuz nothings ever open on sundays. we had another fun night with the girls in our cozy bungalow. the next morning, rachel, zainab, and i went to see the citadelle and the church. calvis a really small town on the water, so we relaxed on the pier and headed back in the evening. erin and lindsay spent most of the weekend inside the bungalow, reading fascination, or twilight, which i will never willingly read, in french or english. i really liked getting out and seeing the gorgeous views of the mountains and the water. if only it was a bit warmer, we couldve enjoyed the beach and the cute pool in our campground. rachel and i did get to soak our feet in the pool our last night despite that it was after hours and it was technically closed. the gate was still open, and no one had been using the pool anyway cuz it was still too cold. then monday morning (today), we took a morning ferry out of calvi back to nice on a huge cruise-like ferry. it was a nice boat, but the motor was so loud that the entire back of teh ship was shaking the whole time. even in the restaurant, all the dishes set on the tables rattled the entire 4 hours. it was kinda like a taste of titanic, so a few of us spent the whole ride on the upper deck, which was a bit better, kinda. overall, it was a relaxing weekend and im totally psyched for spring break next week!! after this dst, bien sur!
